Abstract
809,698. Shaft couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and WOOD, J. July 17, 1957 [July 30, 1956], No. 23530/56. Class 80 (2). Means for securing an element 6 to a shaft 1 comprises a generally flat spring disc 4 having a hole 11 through which the shaft passes, and a number of screws 17, 18, substantially parallel to the shaft axis, which secure the disc to the element and cause parts 12, 13 of the spring disc to be pressed into grooves 2, 3 in the shaft. The spring disc 4, which may be of stainless steel or beryllium-copper, has the holes 7, 8 at approximately two-thirds radius from the centre, and two slots 9, 10 parallel to the holes and terminating on the centre lines of the holes, a portion of the disc being removed to leave the rectangular hole 11. The flaps 12, 13 and the edges 14, 15 of the spring are bent outwards on lines through the holes 7 and 8 to provide a shallow W-shape. The screws 17, 18 are cheeseheaded to bend the parts 12, 13 into the grooves in the shaft 1.
