To prevent loss of charge from a " drycharged " negative plate for a lead-acid battery, a quantity of mineral oil or fixed oil is dispersed throughout the negative paste so that after reduction the individual particles of the reduced material are coated with a film of oil. The amount of oil may be 0.05-10 per cent by weight of the lead oxide component of the paste. A number of suitable oils are specified.
