Abstract

808,410. Gas turbine plant. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 15, 1955 [July 16, 1954], No. 20794/54. Class 110 (3). A gas turbine engine has two nested independently driven concentric rotors, a bearing of each of which is carried by a common part of the stationary structure of the engine, the outer member of each bearing being carried by the respective rotor and the inner member by the stationary structure. The rotors comprise firstly a low-pressure compressor rotor 10a, inner shaft 17a, 17b and low-pressure turbine rotor 14a and secondly a high-pressure compressor rotor 11a, hollow shaft 16 and highpressure turbine rotor 13a. Bearings 19, 22 support the turbine ends of the rotors, the compressor ends being supported by bearings 18, 21 on a common part 27 carried by streamlined struts 26. The inner rotor is not rigid and its shafts 17a, 17b are joined by a splined coupling 33. The bearings 18, 21 are protected from air flow by ducts 47, 48 and holes 45, 46 and are lubricated by oil through 34.
