Abstract

807,996. Washing granular materials. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. Sept. 26, 1955 [Oct. 23, 1954], No. 27385/55. Class 82(2) In a sink and float separation apparatus, dense liquid carrying the light fraction from the separating compartment 4 of an annular rotary container 1 passes on to a draining surface 12, the dense liquid thus freed from the light fraction is then raised by a bucket wheel 8, and discharged at the upper part 9 of its periphery into a shoot 10 for return by gravity to the separating compartment. As shown in Fig. 1, the vessel 1 rotates on supports 2, 3, and material is subjected to sink and float separation in compartment 4 the sinks being carried round by blades 17 to fall into a hopper leading to shoot 18. The floats with dense liquid pass over a weir 11 on to the also rotating conical sieve 12 and leave at 19, the dense liquid passing through into buckets of the wheel 8 to be lifted and discharged into the shoot 10 for return to compartment 4. In the modification of Fig. 3 (not shown) the rotary drum 14 is not connected to the rotary washing unit 15, Whilst the screen 16 may be either fixed or vibrated.
