807,844. Set-screws &c. SET SCREW & MANUFACTURING CO. June 21, 1955 No. 17905/55. Class 89(1) A headless screw comprises a substantially-cylindrical body 40, Fig. 4, having at one end means, e.g. slot 42, for engagement by a torque-applying tool a number of turns of thread on the body having substantially-uniform pitch-and-root diameters, at least one turn at one end having a crest-diameter appropriate to the type of screw-thread employed, and all other turns having a crest-diameter less than the appropriate-diameter but providing threads of at least one-half depth. As shown, threads 44 are of the appropriate crestdiameter and threads 43 of reduced crestdiameter. In a modification, body 130, Fig. 9, has a socket 132 for a torque-wrench, and two flats 131 providing the threads of reduced crest-diameter. The screws are particularly for orientating in a machine of the kind disclosed in Specification 807,845 [Group XXX], wherein the centreof-gravity of the screw is arranged away from the axial-centre to allow the screw to tilt between feeding rollers 21, 21<SP>1</SP> forming part of the machine. The amount by which the crest-diameter is reduced may be within the limits 0.006 inch to 0.012 inch less than the minimum allowable crest-diameter.
