Abstract

The invention comprises sulpho-succinic mono-amides of the general formula <FORM:0807257/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 is a halogenoaryl radical, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical or an alkali metal and one X represents an hydrogen atom while the other represents SO3H or SO3-alkali-metal, and a process for the production of sulphosuccinic mono-amides by treating a maleic acid mono-amide of the general formula <FORM:0807257/IV (b)/2> with a salt of sulphurous acid. The compounds are used as therapeutic agents against paratyphus. Examples describe the preparation of disodium sulpho-succinic acid-o- and p-chloranilide, sodium sulpho-succinic acid-m-chloranilide mono-methyl ester, disodium sulphosuccinic acid - 2 : 4 - dichloro - anilide and 2 : 4 : 5 - trichloro - anilide, disodium sulpho - succinic acid 4 - chloro - trifluoromethyl - anilide and 4 - chloro - 2 - methoxy - anilide and disodium sulpho-succinic acid 2 : 4 - dibromo - 1-naphthylamide and 2 : 4-dichloro-1-naphthylamide, all made by the action of sodium pyrosulphite or sodium metabisulphite on the corresponding maleic amide. Maleic acid amides and esters thereof used as starting materials are prepared by reacting maleic anhydride with the appropriate amine and, if desired, esterifying.
