Abstract
805,917. Pier fenders. BLANCATO, V. May 6, 1957 [May 18, 1956], No. 14316/57. Addition to 780,551. Class 113. A modification of the marine pier shock absorbing structure claimed in the parent Specification consisting in that the fender comprises a plurality of interconnected sections arranged to provide a curved fender structure. Each section comprises vertically extending contact or sheeting members 50 attached by H beam wales to support posts 51 suspended by bolts 55, 56 in brackets 52, 54 secured to the pier 40. Two adjacent sections 44, 45 have lower wales 49 and upper wales 64 respectively which overlay one another to provide a sliding connection between the sections so that a portion of an impact applied to one section is transmitted to and absorbed by the adjacent section. In Fig. 6 the fender is made up of connected straight sections 71, and curved sections 72, 73, 74, 75 of overlapping construction, and the support therefor comprises main piles 76 and outer piles 79 which carry the mounting brackets 84 for the fender. The outer piles are connected to the main piles by a lost motion device comprising a bracing member 91 secured at one end to a fitting 92 on the outer pile and having at the other end a slot 99 which receives a bolt extending from a fitting 95 on the main pile.
