Abstract
805,801. Electromagnetic brakes. DEMAGZUG G.m.b.H. Sept. 12, 1956 [Sept. 15, 1955], No. 27946/56. Class 103 (1). In a device for preventing engagement of the brake in electric motors with displaceable armatures, one radially displaceable locking member is adapted to interact with the motor shaft when the motor is running to prevent engagement of the brake when the motor is stopped. In the embodiment illustrated, the top part of the drawing represents the device in the inoperative position and the lower position is shown in the operative position. The device is in the form of a structural unit connected to the outside of the motor casing in such a manner that balls 2, which constitute the locking members, are adapted to engage a groove 1a in the motor shaft-end 1 as the motor is running. If the engagement of the brake after the motor has stopped is to be avoided, a magnet coil 7 is energized so that a bush 4 is moved by the armature 5 to the position shown in the lower part of the drawing to lock the balls 2 between an annular groove 4a formed on the inner surface of the bush 4 and the groove 1a in the motor shaft-end 1 in the brake released running position. When the motor is restarted after a disengagement of the brake, the force of the brake spring is neutralized by the magnetic force of the stator field of the motor, and pressure exerted by the balls on the bush 4 is released, so that the bush is enabled under the action of the spring 6 to return to its initial inoperative position. In this manner, after the switching-off operation, the rotor can be freely rotated by hand. The device can also be rendered effective when the motor is stationary by switching on the motor and magnet simultaneously; in which case the shaft 1, the armature 5 and thus the bush 4 are brought into the locking position illustrated in the lower half of the drawing. The motor is automatically switched-off when the bush 4 reaches its operative position, by reason of the switch 8 interrupting the circuit to the motor.
