Abstract

804,430. Pile &c. pulling devices. DORNFELD R., and DORNFELD, E. Aug. 24, 1956 [Aug. 30, 1955], No. 26008/56. Class 68(2) A pile and plank pulling device of the Diesel ram type wherein the forcs of compression of a descending ram are converted into traction forces acting in an upward pulling direction, and which may readily be converted into a pile driving device, comprises four rods 1 which guide the ram 12 and are suspended, by springs 7, from a tackle head 8. When for traction a cylinder 2 is suspended from a bridge 11 screwed to the guide rods 1, and the tackle head 8 is kept under tension by means of a winch, not shown. A traction rod 21, passing in liquid tight manner through the base of the cylinder 2, has, within the latter a stop 4 and an enlarged cylindrical head 4 slidably engaged within an inner bore 3' of a piston 3 vertically slidable within the cylinder 2. The space 6 in the cylinder 2 between the lower end of the double piston constitutd by the two parts, 3, 4<SP>1</SP> is filled with a liquid. Each time the ram 12 descends after the diesel cycle has commenced, the high hydraulic pressure, produced by the impact on the piston 3, acts upward upon the head 4<SP>1</SP> of the pull rod 21, and provides a withdrawal force for the pile, or plank. Starting and stopping the diesel ram is effected by means of a winch 9 and a pawl runner 10 which is slidable in a fixed channel iron 22 fixed to one of the guide rods 1 and is suspended from a winch rope 14.
