Abstract
803,957. Control of A.C. motors. BRONIEWSKI, B. Sept. 3, 1956 [Sept. 2, 1955], No. 26915/56. Class 38 (3). A three-phase synchronous machine which may operate as a generator or a motor has its stator winding S connected to a bridge PI, comprising thyratrons a-f, which permits the transfer of energy from the stator to the supply system Ra or in the opposite direction. The bridge PI is connected to a direct-current source consisting of a second bridge PII which is, in turn, connected to the supply system Ra. The control of the bridge PI is effected at the frequency of the stator current, whilst the control of the bridge PII takes place at the frequency of the supply, this control consisting in varying the firing periods of the valves by phase-shifting the grid voltages. In this manner, the amplitude of the stator current and is phase-relationship with the stator voltage s regulated. The machine may be started as a motor by allowing the passage of current through only two phases of the stator winding, by blocking some of the controlled rectifiers. During the starting period, the current in the bridge PII is intermittently interrupted at a frequency which is a multiple of the motor speed. When the motor reaches a predetermined speed, the voltage induced in the motor becomes sufficient to ensure commutation so that the intermittent current flow imposed on the valves of the bridge PII is removed. An inductance L reduces the ripple current.
