Abstract
803,724. Producing ozone. WELSBACH CORPORATION. Nov. 22, 1956, No. 35727/56. Class 39(1). To increase the yield from an ozonizer a limited amount of carbon monoxide is added to the oxygen before admission to the ozonizer, or where carbon monoxide is already present, the total content is kept within a limited range. This range is from 0À1 to 6À1 per cent by volume of carbon monoxide while the ratio of supplied electric energy to gas treated is in the range from 1 to 13 watt hours per cubic foot of gas treated. The ozone leaving the ozonizer 30 at 96 is used at 40 and then recycled after passing a pressure regulator 26 and gas driers 28. Carbon monoxide is added from a source 13 and oxygen is derived from a source 19. The pressure is measured at 42 and the carbon monoxide content at 10. The ozonizer 30 is of stainless steel and includes a jacket 93 through which cooling water is circulated. The electric discharge gaps 92 are provided between the jacket 93 and glass tubes 94 which are coated internally with conducting material to form electrodes. Data and graphs are given.
