A continuously operating press especially for expressing juice out of mare comprises a centrifugal strainer drum with a perforated surface 1 and an inner rotor rotating with the drum but at a different speed, the rotor having aligned compartments the end compartment containing positively driven endless track presser members urged by centrifugal force against material to be treated and the other compartments frictionally driven cylinders, the material being retained by the perforated wall of the drum while the liquid passes through. Spiders 2, 3, one rigidly mounted on a shaft 7 and the other, through ball bearings, on a hollow shaft 6 enclosing the shaft 7 support the drum while the rotor is rigid with the shaft 6 and is driven by their common driving motor 9 at a speed slightly different from that of the shaft 7. Marc from a hopper 15 is fed by a screw conveyer 16 to the drum and passes therealong, movement across compartments defined by radial partitions 22 being aided by spiral guides 25. In at least the end compartment are endless track presser members, each comprising a heavy woven stainless steel track 26, Fig. 5, made rigid transversely by steel bars and passing loosely over driven rollers 28 and rollers 29 mounted on arms 30 pivoted on the axes of the rollers 28 to cause the tracks to move outwards under centrifugal force. A lightweight track loaded with heavy rollers may be used. The rollers 28 are geared to pinions rigid with the hollow shaft 6. In the other compartments, diametrically opposite pairs of rollers are frictionally driven to press the material. An outer casing 20 enclosing the drum is provided in its bottom portion with a liquid discharge outlet 21; solids are directed by a guide 18 into a delivery chamber having a discharge shoot 19.
