Abstract
802,414. Loading and unloading vehicles. HUET, A. T. VAN and HUET, W. G.J. VAN. Dec. 20, 1956 [Aug. 29, 1956], No. 38914/56. Class 78 (4). A gantry 4 supporting a cantilever 16 is mounted to travel on rails 3 on either side of a vehicle, and a crab 17 carrying hoisting gear 31 is movable, e.g. by an endless chain 19, along the cantilever for the purpose of loading the vehicle. The cantilever can be slewed on a bearing 15 over either side of the vehicle, its end 18 being guided by a semi-circular guide rail on the gantry, and projections 23, 24 engage guides 25, 26 on the gantry in its extreme positions. For travelling the cantilever is placed lengthwise of the vehicle, and in this position projections 23, 28 are engaged by guides on the gantry. The cantilever may be locked in any of these three positions. The device is intended particularly for use with an appliance 32 comprising a rectangular frame with horizontal gripper teeth along its lower edge for lifting a stack of bricks. The stem 38 of a T-shaped projection 38, 39 on the frame engages a gap 37 between rails 35, 36 on the gantry as the stack is lowered on the vehicle, and the head of the projection 39 engages behind the rails 35, 36 so that, after release of the gripper teeth, the appliance 32 can be removed from its stack of bricks by moving the gantry.
