Abstract

[Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] The wobbler member 26 of a swash-plate pump comprises a plate portion 27 having one side 46 in rolling contact with the end plate 47 of the pump housing and the other side connected to a plurality of pistons 25 working in axial cylinders 24, the plate being prevented from rotating by a stud 44. The stem of the wobbler member has an end member 30 which is movable in a radial slot of the driven rotating member 36. The rotating member 36 causes the end member 30 to move in a circular path to impart a wobble action to the plate portion which reciprocates the pistons 25. The member 30 is in contact with a lever 128 pivoted at 127 and carrying weights 125 so that radial movement of the member 30 in the rotating member 36 causes an equal and opposite movement of the weights 125 which reduces the out of balance forces acting on the pump. In operation liquid enters through inlet 51 to the space 22 and passes through conduits 53 in the pistons and non-return valves 48 on the suction stroke and is delivered past non-return valves 50 to the collector ring 54 where it passes through outlet 55. The collector ring 54 is connected through conduit 141 to cylinder ring 142 so that just before the end of the suction stroke high pressure liquid is admitted to the working cylinder 24. This has the effect of closing the valve 48, taking some of the load off the end member 30, and ensuring that the wobbler member 26 remains slightly inclined to the axis of the pump when the pump delivery is zero. The angle of the wobbler member is altered to vary the length of stroke of the pistons by a control stem 29, movable axially, having a ball element 28 engaging bearing 43 fixed to the wobbler. The axial position of the control stem 29 is controlled by two servo-motors (see Group XXIX), one, having a control valve 56, being operable under varying delivery and the other, having control valve 104, being controlled by an hydraulic speed governor 90 (see Group XXVI) driven by gear 88 on the rotating member 36, the two servo-motors being operable separately or together to produce the desired output of the pump.
