Abstract

801,910. Reservoir pens. SCRIPTO Inc Oct. 3, 1956, No. 30179/56. Class 146(3) The end portion 18 of the reservoir tube 10 of a ballpoint pen has at least one exterior air-vent groove 22 extending from the rear end at 26, and a closure cap 16 is fitted over the portion 18 to cover the groove 22 but leaving the forward end of the groove open to atmosphere and the rear end at 26 in communication with the interior of the reservoir. There may be three or more grooves 22, formed during the moulding of the reservoir tube, and these may be of rectangular cross-section with a depth of about 0.0025 inch and a width of at least 0.002 inch. Such fine grooves prevent leakage of a quick drying ink under all conditions, since the minute amounts of ink which can enter the grooves are exposed to the atmosphere and are dried rapidly to seal up the grooves. The tube 10 may be of transparent material, and the cap 16 of metal. Specification 791,109 is referred to.
