Abstract
801,170. Surgical dressings. PRITCHETT & GOLD & E.P.S. CO., Ltd. Nov. 11, 1955 [Nov. 12, 1954], No. 32795/54. Class 81 (2). A porous extensible non-fibrous dressing comprises a macroporous pad a affixed to a microporous bandage b larger in area than the pad a. The pad a and the bandage b are of polyvinyl chloride, copolymers of vinyl chloride or vinyl acetate, the pore size being between 125 and 200 microns or having a mean size of 100 microns for the pad a and a mean size of 20 to 30 microns for the bandage b. Rubber base adhesive c is spread discontinuously over the bandage b and serves for fixing the pad a and securing the dressing to the body. The pad a may be treated with domiphen bromide. The porous material may be made by mixing polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene sebacate, methyl cyclohexanone as solvent and sodium chloride of a particle size corresponding to the size of the pores required, extruding the mixture as a sheet, removing the solvent in an air oven, passing the sheet between hot calender rolls, leaching in water and drying. The dressing may be in the form of a finger stall. Specifications 565,022, [Group IV], 718,621, [Group XXVIII], 727,679, 728,600, and 761,080, [all in Group IV (a)], are referred to.
