Abstract

801,000. Submarine vessels. LORD HIGH ADMIRAL OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND, COMMISSIONERS FOR EXECUTING THE OFFICE OF. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23833/45. Class 113. A submersible watercraft has a decked hull a with flooding openings s and air vents t by means of which the hull can be freely flooded while still having sufficient buoyancy to float. Part of the buoyancy and the trimming control is provided by the tanks m, o and p with Kingston valves m<SP>1</SP>, o<SP>1</SP> and p<SP>1</SP> and a vent control q. High pressure air bottles r are connected to the tanks m, o and p. j is a watertight battery compartment and there is a sealed buoyancy tank l as shown. The hollow keel b is flooded through the nozzles u. When the valve t is open water is extracted from the hull by the blades of the propeller d sweeping closely past the outlet nozzles a, which are of elongated cross-section with rubber ends, and thus causing a pressure reduction.
