Abstract

800,876. Boots &c. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO., Ltd. Dec. 24, 1956 [Dec. 22, 1955], No. 36720/55. Class 17(2) A method of making a flexible welted shoe, particularly of mocassin type comprises attaching a flexible insole 10 to a stiff board 11 by a chain stitch seam 12 spaced inwards from the margins. The unit is placed on a last and the margin 14 of the insole is turned downwards and stiffened as by a liquid resin and thereafter an upper 15 is turned down under the board 11 and is secured to the downward margin 14 of the insole 10 as by staples (not shown). A melt 18, 19 is sewn at 20 to the down-turned margins 14, 16 and the shoe is completed with the usual bottom filling and outsole. The seam 12 is severed at some stage after the upper and insole margins 14, 16 are secured together and the board 11 is removed from the shoe after the last is taken out. In a modification instead of turning down the margin of the insole a rib is secured to its underside outwards of the seam 12. The rib is of the usual T shaped tape and core form.
