Abstract

800,466. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Aug. 7, 1956 [Aug. 23, 1955], No. 24165/56. Class 40 (7). A directional aerial system of the kind in which a primary radiator 2 illuminates a reflector 1 with an intensity which decreases towards the edge of the latter but where some energy is directed past the edge of the reflector is provided in the neighbourhood of the edge, and in the path of radiation past the edge, with a secondary radiator, such as the ring 4, arranged to reduce or eliminate rearwardly directed radiation lobes. The metal ring 4 is placed and dimensioned by trial and error so as to produce the best results and probably operates by the radiation of a phase opposed cancelling signal in the direction of the unwanted radiation. Further rings close to the first may be used. Other forms of secondary radiator may be used. For example only segments of a ring may be provided or one or more rings or ring segments of dielectric material may be attached to the edge of the reflector 1 or spaced a small distance therefrom. The system may be used for receiving as well as for transmitting.
