Class 141 A skirt comprises an opening 6 extending downwardly from the top of the waist portion over a part or whole of the distance to the bottom of the skirt, fastening means having two complementary engageable parts 23, 24, one along each of the opposing edges of the opening for detachably securing said edges together, and a panel 9 adapted to be detachably fastened within the said opening when said edges are not fastened together by the provision along each side edge of the panel of one of a pair of complementary parts 25, 26 engageable with the complementary part along the edge of the skirt opening to which the said side edge is to be fastened. whereby the girth of the skirt can be varied according as the panel is or is not in use. When the fastening means is open a slider 8 remains on the part 23, being separated from the part 24, and a slider 10 is carried on the part 26 on the panel. Alternatively, the fastening means may be buttons and buttonholes or spring buttons. Panels of different widths may be provided, and may be pleated or decorated. The panels may extend the whole length of the skirt and may be of uniform or of varying width, or may extend only a part of the length and each taper to a point. The waistband 1 is fastened by means of a buttonhole 27 in the end portion 3 and a button 5 on the end portion 4, if a panel is not in use, otherwise a button 12 and buttonhole 13 on the panel are fastened to the buttonhole 27 and button 5 respectively. The waistband is provided with two additional gaps 14, 28, the gap 14 being bridged by an extension 15 having a buttonhole 16 engaging any one of buttons 17, and the gap 28 being similarly bridged. The material of the skirt beneath the gaps is formed into folds 18, 22, the outer edges 19, 29 of which are sewn to the extensions, so as to accommodate the various adjustments of the waistband.
