Abstract

The invention comprises salts of therapeutic bases, namely proteins, peptides, aminoacids, alkaloids, analgesics, substances having local anaesthetic action and ganglion blocking agents, having one or more basic amino groups in the molecule, with an acid of the general formula: <FORM:0797954/IV (b)/1> in which R2 or R3 are hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl groups or may be joined to form part of a naphthalene nucleus, R4 and R6 represent hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl groups, R5 is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or amino and X is a sulphonyl or carbonyl group. The salts are made by reacting the therapeutic base with the acid or a soluble salt thereof, in which latter case the therapeutic base is preferably used in the form of its salt such as the hydrochloride, sulphate, acetate or tartrate. Suitable acids include N-p-toluene-sulphonyl naphthionic, sulphanilyl sulphanilic, p-toluenesulphonyl sulphanilic, benzoylsulphanilic, N - sulphanilyl naphthionic and 3 : 5-di-iodo-sulphanilyl sulphanilic acids. The therapeutic base may for example be hexamine, pethidine, dihydrohydroxycodeinone, morphine, adrenocorticotropic hormone, adrenalin or p-aminosalicylic acid. Examples are given.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations for injection comprise sparingly soluble salts of therapeutic bases namely proteins, peptides, aminoacids, alkaloids, analgesics, substances having local an sthetic action and ganglion blocking agents, having one or more basic amino groups in the molecule with an acid of theg eneral formula: <FORM:0797954/VI/1> in which R2 and R3 are hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl groups or may be joined to form part of a naphthalene nucleus, R4 and R6 are hydrogen, halogen or alkyl, R5 is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or amino and X is a sulphonyl or carbonyl group, with medically acceptable carriers in the form of oily bases or solutions of high molecular weight materials such as gelatine, pectins, dextrans and polyvinyl pyrrolidones. The therapeutic base may for example be hexamine, pethidine, dihydrohydroxy codeinone, morphine, adrenocorticotropic hormone, adrenaline or p-aminosalicylic acid. Suitable acids include N-p-toluene-sulphonyl naphthionic, sulphanilyl sulphanilic, p-toluene-sulphonyl sulphanilic, benzoylsulphanitic, N-sulphanilyl naphthionic and 3 : 5-di-iodo-sulphanilyl sulphanilic acids. Examples describe the preparation of suitable sparingly soluble salts from the above acids and bases, including the salt of adrenocorticotropic hormone with 3 : 5-di-iodosulphanilyl sulphanilic acid.
