Abstract

797,699. Shovelling machines. HYDRAULISKA INDUSTRI AKTIEBOLAGET. Dec. 8, 1955 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 35206/55. Class 68(1) [Also in Group XXX] The slewing jib 20 (Fig. 2) of a load handling machine is luffed by a hydraulic ram 7, 15 and has at its end a further jib 28 which can be folded back as illustrated for stowing or can be moved to a position in which it is swung about a pivot 27 relatively to the jib 20 by a hydraulic ram 34. As illustrated each jib 20, 28 is of channel section and the ram 34 is mounted within the jib 28 to swing a member 30 about the pivot 27. When the jib 28 is thus unfolded the member 30 engages the wall 35 of the jib 28 which is thus swung by the ram 34. The ram 34 may be singleacting and work against a counterweight or against a spring 38 as shown, or may be double acting. The jib 20 is pivoted at 19 to a bracket on the cylinder 7 and is connected by a pair of links 21 to a trunnion 23 on the piston 15. The cylinder 7 is slewed by a rack mounted in a housing 13 to engage a pinion on the cylinder and reciprocated by hydraulic rams 10, 11. Valves 59, 67 controlling the ram 7, 15, the slewing rams 10, 11, and the ram 34 are controlled by handles 60, 61, 70, 71 which may be mounted at the sides of a vehicle on which the device is mounted and the two valves 59, 67 may be combined. The device may be mounted on a rail vehicle or ship but is shown on a road vehicle provided with a cross beam 3 which forms a liquid reservoir and with telescopic legs 72 for relieving the load on the vehicle springs. A tube 41 which telescopes aljustably in the end of the jib 28 terminates in a chain 42 (Fig. 5) passing over a pulley or guide 44 and locked in an adjusted position by a chain stopper 49 carried by a link pivoted at 47 and secured by a spring biased bolt 53. The jib 28 may carry a shovel, and may be pivoted directly to the ram head 32 of the ram 34.
