Abstract
797,608. Nuclear fuel elements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 13, 1956 [Aug. 17, 1955], No. 23754/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). In a nuclear reactor fuel element cooling gas is circulated along a helical path round the element longitudinal axis. The fuel may be in the form of either a rod or a helix. In the former case the coolant is guided round the rod surface by a helical fin and in the latter case the coolant passes round the helical path formed by the adjacent turns of the element. The fuel is sheathed in either aluminium or magnesium and in the second form, the fuel helix is wound on a core and has a cylindrical covering both of which may be either carbon or a metal. Specification 790,688 is referred to.
