Abstract

797,605. Drying textile fibres. PATENTHANDELS AKT.-GES. July 25, 1955, No. 21416/55. Class 34(2) In the drying of chemically treated textile fibres by displacing the water by means of a suitable solvent mixable with water and subsequently removing the solvent by heating, the fibres are carried on a conveyer 9 via a liquid gate 1 into a gastight chamber 5 containing tanks 2, 3, 4 through which the fibres pass, the temperature of the drying tunnel part of the chamber being kept at about 158‹F. Near the end of the tunnel a conveyer belt 6 has claws 21 which grip and bundle the fibres hanging on the rods 7 of conveyer 9 and then are released to drop the fibres into collecting tanks 13 where hot gases are blown. through via entry 20 and exit 19 to finally dry the fibres, the solvent being recovered from the gases by means of scrubbers 24, 25. A safety valve 29 allows escape of gases via the scrubbers if pressure becomes too high. The apparatus may be filled with an inert gas to obviate the danger of explosion.
