Abstract

797,414. Cooling-towers. ZINN, W. V. May 23, 1955 [Aug. 24, 1954], No. 24596/54. Class 64(1) The cylindrical shell of a cooling tower is made of separately pre-cast elements 1 of concrete or other material, assembled so as to break the horizontal joint between them, and circumferentially reinforced and held together by tensioning means received and located in means, e.g. grooved plates 11, on the elements. The tensioning means are steel rings 8, which are located in the channels 7 on, or in recesses in, the elements 1. The rings are covered by cement 12. At the vertical joints the elements are channelled, tongued and grooved, or halved and the spaces may contain reinforcing material and be filled with cement. Specification 797,413 is referred to.
