Class 117 An outer frame 10 comprising opposed walls 11 interconnected by horizontal members carries three trays 7 and is mounted on a sprung rectangular base 4 by two rows of inclined laminated leaf springs 5 and a frame 13 rests inside the outer one and carries three wire mesh screens 8. Two rows of laminated leaf springs 6 having an inclination opposite to that of the springs 5 support the inner frame, and driving means reciprocates the frames in opposition to each other. The driving means include a shaft 18, driven by an electric motor, mounted on the frame 10, and two eccentric bearings 20 are mounted on the shaft and carry links 21 which are pivotally connected through trunnion mountings 22 to a horizontal member 15 of the inner frame which extends between side walls 14. The springs 5 and 6 are preferably inclined at an angle of 60 degrees to the horizontal so that the screens and trays reciprocate in directions at 30 degrees to the horizontal. Material is fed to the right hand end of the top screen and is thrown in steps towards the opposite end where the oversize is fed to a shoot and the fines pass to the tray beneath. The fines are thrown to the right hand end of the tray and fall on to the middle screen; the process is repeated through the machine. The trays may be replaced by screens or the machine may comprise one screen and one tray only; coil springs may be used instead of leaf springs
