Abstract
796,916. Peeling &c. potatoes. HOBART MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 6, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 27337/56. Class 28 (2). The stationary upper chamber 15 is provided with vertical ribs 56 to rub off the " fuzz " left on the potatoes when peeled by the abrasive surface of the rotating bottom plate 50. The fuzz is washed off the ribs by a flat fan-like spray of water 78 at the top delivered by a tube 75 and deflected by the curve 68 of the lid 65 across the opening 70 of the lid to the inside of the lid edge. The potatoes are dropped through a top opening 65 and when peeled a door 35 is opened by the handle 40 so that the potatoes are delivered into a shoot 22. Fig. 10 shows details of the door and hopper. The water pours down the ribs 56 and being also carried round by the potatoes cleans all the ribs, finally passing with peelings out at the periphery of the rotating bottom plate 50 and along a division plate 12 to an outlet 80-82. The drive motor 130 drives the shaft 90 of the rotated plate through a belt and pulleys 125, 162. The motor and its drive and shaft 90 are all suspended from the partition 12 in the casing. The shaft 90 penetrates the partition in liquid-tight mountings, Fig. 2. Fig. 8 shows another view of the suspension in which a plate 140 carries the motor 130. A timer (168, not shown) may be set to end the period of working.
