Abstract
795,996. Machinery safety devices. DICTAPHONE CORPORATION. June L9, 1956 [June 24, 1955], No. 18929/56. Class 80 (4). A two-handed safety operating device for a machine 6 comprises dual push-button switches 2, 4 which have to be closed simultaneously, or substantially so, to actuate a main contactor or relay 22 to initiate the operation of the machine. A time delay relay 21 which is set in operation when either of switches 2, 4 is actuated controls a switch 32 in series with the switches 2, 4 across the power lines 18, 20 so that whilst normally closed it opens after a short delay, governed by the discharge of a condenser 44 through a resistance 40 and the solenoid 42, to break the circuit of the relay 22. Thus if one switch 2 or 4 is operated first the switch 32 may operate before the other is subsequently operated to prevent relay 22 actuating. If both switches are operated together relay 22 will be actuated, before the time delay switch 32 is opened, to start the machine. In a modified arrangement a second time delay relay is provided to ensure that sufficient time is allowed for the main contactor or relay 22 to function after both switches 2 and 4 are closed. ______
