Abstract

795,992. Gravity-separation apparatus; filters. LEJE & THURNE AKTIEBOLAG. March 6, 1956 [March 16, 1955], No. 6984/56. Class 46. [Also in Groups II and VIII] In apparatus for continuously separating by flotation fibrous materials suspended in a liquid, and comprising a container wherein the suspension flows from an inlet 6 at one end to an outlet at the other end, and vertical partitions 11 forming a plurality of flow channels, the partitions extend to the proximity of a spillway 9 at the outlet end and their upper edges at that end are lower than the normal level 10 of the suspension so providing a free liquid space above said upper edges wherein is partly immersed a conveyer to entrain the floated fibrous material and carry it towards the outlet. A distributing screen 7 may be disposed in front of the inlet 6, an inclined take-up table 13 may extend to a collecting pocket 15, and the side walls of the container may be sprayed with water to prevent the upwardly floating material from sticking thereto. The conveyer may comprise endless chains carrying scraper blades, an endless strainer cloth provided with nozzles for compressed air or spraying liquid, or a rotating strainer drum. The separation may be carried out under vacuum or with the supply of heat, and it may be used for the purification of back water from a paper-making machine.
