Abstract

An antifouling paint comprises varnish, pigment and at least one organic compound containing an o -monofluoro normal saturated fatty group. Compounds specified include: 2-fluoroethanol, 4-fluorobutanol, 2-fluoroethyl fluoroacetate, 2 - chloroethyl fluoraocetate, 2-fluoroethyl o - fluorocaproate, glycol bisfluoroacetate, glycerol trisfluoroacetate, fluoroacetic acid, o -fluorobutyric acid, fluoroacetaldehyde, fluoroacetone, 2,21difluoroethyl ether, bisfluoroethyl acetal, fluoroacetoamide, fluoroacetoanilide, fluoroacetyl phenylhydrazide, 1 - amino - 2 - fluoroethane, fluoroacetonitrile, fluoroacetonitrile, sodium and barium fluoroacetates and cupric bisfluoroacetate. The vehicle may be oil varnish, natural and artificial resins, shellac, coal tar, pitch and wood tar. Antifouling ingredients such as cuprous oxide, mercuric oxide and pentachlorphenol may also be included. Pigments specified in examples include zinc oxide, titanium oxide, plaster of Paris and diatomaceous earth.ALSO:An antifouling point comprises varnish, pigment and at least one organic compound containing an o -monofluoro normal saturated fatty group. In Example 2 it comprises: 2-fluoroethyl o -fluorocaproate, titanium oxide, diatomaceous earth, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone, and cyclohexane. Example 5 specifies: fluoroacetyl phenylhydrazide, zinc oxide, boiled linseed oil, solvent naphtha, polymerized benzyl chloride artificial resin (mol. wt. 1300 to 2000) and benzol.
