[Also in Group IX] In a yarn tension control device yarn passes into and out of the device through fixed entry and outlet guides between which a further guide, through which the yarn passes, is disposed, the further guide being arranged towards one end of a lever which is pivoted near its other end about a centre and is movable, under the varying instantaneous tension in the yarn, about said centre and against the loading of a counterweight, from a position in which the further guide determines a longer path for the yarn to a position in which it determines a shorter path, the movement of said further guide towards a position in which it determines the shortest path effecting progressively increased separation of a disc-like portion of the device from another disc which, with the disc-like portion, forms a further yarn guide with the yarn passing between the discs whereby with the further guide moved towards said position due to momentarily increased tension in the yarn the tension applied to the yarn by the disk-like portion and the disc is relieved. In the arrangement shown, yarn leaves the package 38, passes through a guide 36, around a guide 18 having inwardly and upwardly extending horns 20, between discs 30 and 32, through another fixed guide 35, then through a guide 25 situated at one end of a pivoted arm 24 and finally out through a guide 33. The arm 24 is pivoted at 23 and carries an eccentrically mounted counterweight 22 in the form of a cylinder also mounted on pivots 23. The arm moves with varying tension in the yarn 37 from the position shown in full lines to the position shown in dotted lines and in moving to the latter position the cylindrical counterweight 22 acts as a cam on a plunger 29 to lift the weighted top disc 32 away from the lower disc 30 to relieve the tension in the yarn.
