Abstract
794,214. Portable containers: container cradles: container closures. PEAKE, F. Oct. 10, 1956 [Oct. 13, 1955], No. 29141/55. Classes 21, 66 and 125(3). A rigid cradle for a rubber or other flexible container 10 includes a ring 30 that can be forced down onto the lid 11 of the container, the ring 30 being of such a size that it will force the rim of the lid to wrap over the inside edge of the mouth 10a of the container and make a liquid or air-tight seal therewith. As shown, the cradle comprises a number of side slats 23 and crossed bottom strips 20 all secured to an end ring 21. The slats 23 are secured at their upper end to a ring 22 provided with handles 24 and lugs 25. To each lug 25 is pivoted a lever 26 by means of which a cranked link 27 can be forced downwards into a self-locking position exerting pressure on crossed strips 31, 31a resting on the ring 30. The ring 30 is of slightly less diameter than the cover 11 and it may constitute the peripheral part of a circular disc. The cradle may be of metal and the flexible container 10 preferably has a reinforcing wire 10b in its rim.
