Abstract

<PICT:0793958/III/1> <PICT:0793958/III/2> An electrostatic device for spraying liquid, e.g. lacquer, comprises an insulating nozzle 1 to which the lacquer 2 is fed and an electrode in contact with the lacquer 2 in the nozzle 1 and forming a metal end-piece 15 of the nozzle 1, a high tension electric field being established between the electrode 15 and an electrode 8 which is formed by, or is in contact with, the article to be sprayed, e.g. an insulating container 17. A set of nozzles 1, Fig. 7, is mounted on a carriage 19 having rollers 21 running on rails 27. A rotatable shaft 29 carries three cams, a cam 24 which periodically operates a cock 40 on the lacquer supply line through the medium of a relay 37, electromagnet 38 and lever 39, a cam 25 which periodically closes the supply circuit to the electrode 8 through a relay 36 and a slider 42, and a cam 31 on a plate 32 which reciprocates the carriage 19 through a spring-urged roller 44. The inclination of the nozzles 1 is altered periodically by a cam drum 33 fixed on the plate 32 which is engaged by a spring-urged roller 35 connected by a lever to a support 41 for the nozzles.
