Abstract

793,307. Fluid-actuated valves. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd. Jan. 3, 1956 [Jan. 3, 1955], No. 95/55. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] In an apparatus for the inflation of tyres direct from a compressor normally charging a reservoir, comprising a manually operable cock and a valve device (see Group XXVIII), said device has a valve element 18 fixed by a bolt 23 to a bellows 22 housing a spring 26 whose compression is adjustable by means of a screwthreaded cap 27, the exterior of the bellows being connected via a port 24 to said cock. A port 12 is connected to the compressor and a port 14 to the reservoir. When the cock is closed and disconnected from the tyre, port 24 and bellows 22 are open to atmosphere so that spring 26 holds the valve element off its seat to permit air to flow from the compressor to the reservoir via ports 12 and 14. When the cock is connected to a tyre and opened air flows direct from the compressor to the tyre, and as soon as this air, which also flows to port 24, acquires a pressure to overcome spring 26 the valve element 18 seats to cut off communication between ports 12 and 14. When the tyre is disconnected and the cock closed, port 24 is again opened to atmosphere and spring 26 unseats the valve element to restore communication between ports 12 and 14.
