Abstract

790,874. Laminates. CLARK-CUTLERMcDERMOTT CO. Nov. 25,1955, No. 33860/55. Class 140. A vibration absorbing pad 1 having a laminated structure comprises layers 2 to 6 of highly compressed needled fabric which are impregnated with vinyl plastic composition, such layers being permanently bonded together by the vinyl plastic composition and some of said layers, e.g. 3 and 5, having a filling of ground cork. The pads may be provided on one or both sides with ribs 28 of vinyl plastic composition substantially free from fibrous material which may be formed in crossing relationship as shown. Layers of filled and unfilled fabric are preferably alternated throughout the laminate. The needled fabric is preferably composed of sisal fibres needled to a textile backing. The pads are impregnated for example by being passed through baths of polyvinylchloride or copolymers of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl acetate ground to a powder and dispersed in a plasticizing oil with or without the addition of clay filler. The ribs are formed when the vinyl plastic composition is cured by pressing and heating between grooved platens of a press when the excess of vinyl resin in the pads exudes into these grooves.
