Abstract
790,654. Turbines. VICKERS - ARMSTRONGS (ENGINEERS), Ltd. June 11, 1956 [July 28, 1955], No. 21881/55. Class 110 (3). An axial flow turbine comprising an outer casing 4 around and supporting an inner casing 20 and a nozzle box 8 has a sleeve 9 integral with the nozzle box which passes through the outer casing 4 and carries a gland 30 and a wall 14 also integral with the nozzle box which extends into sealing engagement with the outer casing 4 and separates the part of the outer casing 4 containing the inner casing 20 from a part of the outer casing which is used to pressurize the exterior of the nozzle box. The casing 4 has an inlet 5 and outlet 6 through which steam from a boiler (not shown) is passed to a superheater supplying the turbine through an inlet 7. The sleeve 9 passes through a bush 10 welded to a boss 11 forming part of the casing 4. Ramsbottom rings 13 form a seal between the sleeve and the bush. The wall 14 has a flange 15 which is held against a shoulder 16 by a ring 17 keyed to the inside surface of the casing 4 and a split ring 18. The inner casing 20 is split axially and held together by bolts 21. The casing 20 has a rib 24 which is held between a flange 23 on the ring 17 and the flange 15. Studs 26 secure the ring 17 to the inner casing. The outer casing 4 is split in a plane transverse to the rotor axis into two parts 4A, 4B.
