Abstract

790,363. Glass compositions. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 20, 1955 [March 16, 1954], No. 7636/54. Class 56. [Also in Group XXXVI] A resistor having a negative temperature coefficient consists of a body of glass comprising at least 30 per cent by weight of V 2 O 5 . The remainder of the glass may consist of from 70 to 5 per cent of Pb 2 O 5 or 70-40 per cent of TeO 2 . Other examples of glass composition are (i) at least 70 per cent of V 2 O 5 , less than 10 per cent of PbO and not more than 20 per cent of Pb 2 O 5 , (ii) 74 per cent V 2 O 5 , 18À5 per cent P 2 O 5 and 7À5 per cent of PbO, and (iii) 83 per cent V 2 O 5 , 9 per cent P 2 O 5 and 8À0 per cent of PbO. Alkali metal oxides or alkaline earth metal oxides may be included in the glass. The glass may be cast between chrome-iron alloy sheets, which serve as electrodes, or the electrodes may be provided by spraying or evaporating metal on to separated regions of the body.
