An apparatus or machine for cleansing, washing or drying containers comprises a rotatable nozzle 19, Fig. 1, which is adapted to be turned so as to project a fluid jet into the container 5, Fig. 3, and to direct the jet on to one side and then the opposite side of the interior of the container during its rotational movement, the movement being caused by the successive engagement of the container with two spaced apart cams 23, 25 associated with the nozzle 19. As shown in Fig. 1, a liquid supply pipe 1, is provided with a slot 3 and is surrounded by a cylinder 7 having a slot 9 corresponding with the slot 3. Rotatable on the cylinder 7 is a member 11 provided with two opposed jet pipes 17 each carrying at their ends, a perforated nozzle 19. Recesses 13 between the member 11 and cylinder 7 are packed with material held in position by members 15. Referring to Fig. 3, each jet pipe 17 is provided with a cam 25 and two further cams 23, each arranged at 90 degrees to the jet pipes, are provided on strut members 21 on the member 11. As an inverted container 5 is moved along a conveyer (not shown) through positions B, C, D, E, F, and H a nozzle 19 will be caused to move in an arcuate path within the container mouth, by the successive engagement of the mouth with the cams 23, 25. A series of rotatable nozzles may be arranged across the track of a container to provide a plurality of cleaning positions and a position at which hot air is supplied to a can. The arrangement of the parts 3, 9 is such that the nozzles. 19 will only be supplied with fluid when the nozzles are within a container mouth.
