Class 97(3) [Also in Group XXXVIII] A sonic suction pyrometer for measuring the temperature of gases flowing at a high velocity, comprises a tubular housing 1 having a throat or nozzle 3 through which the gas flows at sonic velocity, and a resistance wire thermometer 2 situated up stream of the nozzle. The device has a small time constant which may be further reduced by having the mass of the resistance wire small relative to its surface area.
