788,205. Water softeners. ROBERTS, V. F., and ROBERTS, V. M. Dec. 29, 1955 [Jan. 10, 1955 ; June 29, 1955], No. 37279/55. Class 46. An up-flow water softener with regeneration flow in the same direction comprises a tubular container 1 having its lower part three quarters filled with base-exchange material 5 heavier than water but capable of being agitated by the water flow, and the space immediately below a partition 2 filled with a light filter material 6, water being admitted to the space 3 above the partition 2 and passing therefrom through a filter 17 into an axial tube 8 reaching almost to the base of the container whence it rises through the base-exchange material 5 to an outlet 16 protected by a gauge 15. A small space only remains between the base exchange material 5 and the filter material 6, the former of which may be that sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Zeokarb " and the latter that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Alkathene." An inspection cover 13 is disposed on the base 9 of the container.
