Abstract

788,193. Plate heat-exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. June 23, 1955 [Sept. 4, 1954], No. 18184/55. Class 64(3) In a heat-exchanger comprising a stack of plates, the crosssectional area of a fluid passage formed between a pair of plates changes progressively whilst the width of said passage measured in the plane of the plates and in a direction transverse to the direction of fluid flow through the passage, remains constant. Fig. I shows an arrangement in which the plates 1, 2 are provided with transverse corrugations the pitch of which changes uniformly thus changing the cross-sectional area of the flow passage 3. Alternatively the cross-sectional area of the flow passage 3 may be changed by progressively reducing the depth of successive corrugations or adjacent plates may be inclined with respect to each other with or without a progressive change in the depth of successive corrugations to produce the desired change in cross-section.
