Abstract

788,014. Bottling. DETREZ, R. Aug. 17, 1955 [Aug. 20, 1954], No. 23650/55. Class 125(2). In vacuum or reservoir and syphon bottling apparatus having a vacuum tube 8, a liquid supply tube 6 and a seal 4 for the bottle neck, high pressure gas is supplied to the headspace when filling is completed but before the bottle is lowered, to clear tubes 6 and 8 of liquid. As shown, the invention is applied to rotating table vacuum machines in which suction is applied to tube 8 and, when a bottle is in engagement with seal 4, liquid is drawn from a reservoir through pipe 7 to tube 6. After filling, a fixed cam 16 opens a valve 12 to allow high pressure gas to flow through pipe 14, chamber 11 and passage 9 to the headspace. In a modified form the machine, which may be of the syphon type or the vacuum type, has the liquid tube slidable on and normally closed by the vent tube and the high pressure gas is not supplied until the bottle has been lowered to an intermediate position in which the liquid tube is closed and in which the bottle neck is still in engagement with the seal 4.
