787,758. Ornamenting glass. COVENTRY, F. H. June 17, 1955, No. 17552/55. Class 93 A method of decorating glass e.g. sheets or articles with colour, e.g. with a coloured picture, comprises treating selected surface areas of the glass by sandblasting, etching with acid, cutting, or engraving, applying transparent or translucent vitreous colour to selected surface areas of the glass, and fuzing the colour by firing. The coloured areas may or may not be the same areas as the treated areas, e.g. in the case of a glass sheet, the coloured areas may be on the opposite face of the sheet. Selected areas of the glass may be silvered, e.g. on either face of a coloured and treated sheet, where the treatment comprises sandblasting, an acid treatment may follow to restore the brightness of the treated area. In addition to the treatments mentioned above. rolling, moulding or casting may be employed to produce the glass surfaces.
