Abstract
787,594. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. EPSYLON RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO., Ltd. March 2, 1956 [March 9, 1955], No. 6941/55. Class 40 (2). A mounting 1 for magnetic transducer heads 1a, 1b, 1c has means for automatically moving it step-by-step to different track positions on a tape carrying parallel tracks, and for automatically restoring it to its original position. The mounting 1 is adapted to slide vertically on a rotatable rod 3 supported in a frame 4. The rod 3 carries a disc member 6 having a pin 7 which engages a spiral-shaped cam member 8, secured in the mounting 1, so that rotation of rod 3 lifts the mounting 1 until it reaches a point where it once again returns to its original position under the influence of a helical spring 9 and gravity. The rod is rotated step-by-step by a ratchet mechanism operated by a solenoid. Change-over contacts 10 cause the direction of drive of the tape to be reversed each time the ratchet mechanism operates. The rod 3 is provided with a knob 5 for manual operation.
