Abstract

786,577. Electric air heaters. CAMPBELL, G. J. March 18, 1955, No. 8010/55. Class 39(3) An electric air heating unit comprises a tubular column 3 having at its bottom end two heating elements consisting of insulating supports 31 in which are arranged heating coils 321, the supports being secured to the front and back walls of a box-like carrier 29 slidably supported in the column. A motor and fan unit mounted on a spider 21 is positioned at the top of the column in front of an air inlet 6, air being directed from a spiral baffle 25 down between the converging elements and also around the outer sides of the carrier 29, to prevent overheating of the column walls. A removable discharge baffle 35 retains the carrier in position which is protected from overheating, should the motor stop for any reason, by a fuse which is exposed to the air stream from the fan and is fusible when the elements remain energized while the fan is inoperative. A switch 12 enables the fan motor only or the heating elements and the motor to be switched in circuit, control by thermostat 13 also being provided.
