Abstract

785,315. Feeding webs. RHODES, Ltd., W., and CEMM, J. Jan. 2. 1956 [Dec. 28, 1954], No. 37450/54. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XXII] Strip feeding apparatus for a machine having a fixed base plate 2, Fig. 1, and a movable top plate 1 comprises a forked member 13 through which the strip 24 passes and which is reciprocated by the top plate 1 and has means to secure the strip for advancement, further means being provided to secure the strip against retrograde movement. The member 13 is movable in a slideway 25 and carries a gripping member 26 pivoted at 27 and fitted with an adjustable work-engaging blade 19 which is yieldingly held in engagement with the strip 24 by a spring 14. The member 13 is actuated through a bell crank 6 which rotates about a pivot 7 on a fixed pillar 27 (not shown) and is engaged by an adjustable bolt 4 attached to an extension 3 of the top plate 1. A slot 8 in the bell crank 6 engages over a bolt 9 on the member 13. The return movement is caused by a spring 10 and is limited by an adjustable stop 12 which determines the amount of feed. A further gripper 20 mounted on an offset pivot in a fixed support 22 holds the strip 24 during the return stroke of thefeed mechanism and is urged into engagement with the strip by a spring 21.
