785,243. Conditioning paper &c. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN. July 7, 1955 [July 8, 1954], No. 19634/55. Class 96. A paper web 1 &c., passing about upper and lower rolls 7a, 7b in successive compartments I, II, III, IV, is conditioned by air circulated by a fan past spray nozzles and water-eliminating plates (not shown), and through a heat-exchanger; the air, which is supplied through slotted pipes 6a, 6b with baffles 9 adjacent the slots, is more humid in each successive compartment towards the last, and the paper is cooled at or between successive steps of the treatment, e.g. using cooled rolls. The paper may be de-humidified in the last compartment to an equilibrium moisture-content. The top of the enclosure may be domed so that condensed water does not drop on to the paper.
