Abstract
784,581. Valves. NORMALAIR, Ltd. March 1, 1955 [March 1, 1954], No. 5884/54. Class 135. A valve mechanism for operating a series of butterfly valves in sequence comprises a substantially H-shaped casing a, disposed in parallel ducts 1, 4, Fig. 5, and butterfly valves r, p, o mounted on spindles h, i, g passing sealingly through the casing and operating in concave-spherical seatings. A bell-crank lever k mounted on the spindle i carries rollers s, t which engage slots in levers w, m mounted on the spindles h, g respectively. The levers w, m being formed with arcuate cam surfaces engageable with a complementary cam surface x on a locking cam y mounted on the spindle i. In the position shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the valves p and o are closed and the valve r open to pass air direct from a blower to a pressurized aircraft cabin. On anticlockwise rotation of the spindle i through 90 degrees, the valve r is closed and the valve p opened so that air from the blower passes through a heat exchanger 5 on its way to the cabin. On further anticlockwise rotation of the spindle i through 90 degrees, the valve o is now opened and the valve p closed whence air from the blower passes both through the heat exchangers 5 and a refrigerator unit 7 on its way to the cabin.
