784,247. Photographic shutters. WILLIAMSON MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. July 12, 1956 [April 12, 1955], No. 10512/55. Class 98(1) A focal plane shutter has a capping flap of sufficient width to cover the shutter seat (or the widest slot in the case of an adjustable slot) hinged to the shutter blind adjacent one edge of the slot. As shown, the shutter blind comprises two lengths of fabric 11, 12 joined as at 13 to leave a slot 14 of fixed size and having their edges reinforced by channel members 15, 16. To the member 15 are secured hinge knuckles 19 traversed by a hinge pin 22 around which is lapped and secured by stitching 23 a single thickness of blind fabric to form the capping flap 21, which lies over the blind part 11 during exposure but turns over and obscures the slot 14 when the blind is wound up. Against the blind rollers ledges of material (e.g., plush) may be provided to act as pawls for swinging the flap 21 over during release of the blind. The flap may alternatively be formed of thin card or fibre covered at one or both sides with blind fabric, or of a rectangle of wire covered with blind fabric, or of thin metal in which case its long edges may be rolled over.
