A gear-hobbing machine wherein the angularly-adjustable hob mounting 5, Fig. 1, is replaced by an angularly-adjustable shaving- tool base plate 9, Fig. 2, comprises a shaving tool S mounted for adjustment angularly and radially of the work, as by an inclined guide 17. The tool S is adjustable angularly on the guide 17, which is traversed by a motor 14 and screw 13 for diagonal-traverse shaving. Specification 761,294 is referred to.
